To gauge progress, I recommend watching both the numerical countdown on the app’s icon AND the file size displayed in Finder for each individual file. It’s very satisfying to see a 500MB file, for example, shrink down to 400, 300, 200, 50MB, before it vanishes. Without a progress bar built into the app, that’s the best way to do it to satisfy your need to know if the app is actually performing, and how fast.

It is easy to use and setup. I assume it’s doing what it says, theres no way to tell or even a little notice that the file was erased. I think it would “feel” more substantial if there was some animation that could be turned on.

For what the application does, this application does it very well. I really recommend secure shredding files, though.
One suggestion I would add, though – Devs, make this app USB-useage without having to log in to the App Store. Annoying to have to log in every time I want to use it on another mac computer for personal use.

FileShredder works smoothly and conveniently. It shreds selected, or all, files from the folder where they are filed or from wastebasket. Works very quickly with my solid state drive. No complaints. It may be overkill on an encrypted drive, but I like knowing trashed financial files ate completely gone, even if someone gets hold of my computer account password. When I move a file to a backup drive and put that drive in the safe-deposit box, I want to know that is the only place it is at. I shred paper copies, why would I want to do otherwise with digital copies?

Purchased this as I had some files I could not delete from Trash can. This, from its description appeared to fit the bill. Well it was useless, and just threw up an Error “An unexpected error occurred deleting the file(s). Please check the file permissions and ensure that the file(s) are not read-only or locked” Oh, an no the file was not read only or locked. Save your money, as this is not worth a place on my Mac even if it was free, let alone the cost I pad.

I unwittingly moved a Time Machine Backup into my Trash & found I couldn’t delete it or anything else. This Folder containined over 400,000 folders & files and took up 69Mb of space.
I tried using the rm -rf command in Terminal but this didn’t work and Apple Tech Support said the only way to remove it was to do a factory reset of my iMac.
Before downloading this app I emailed the VoidTech Support Team who responded immediately & downloaded the app.
It took 2hrs but it removed it from my Trash folder completely!
